Hey all,
I was wondering if it is a known issue that Appway 5.3.10 studio ends up using over a1.0 gigs of memory in IE8. Is this something that was fixed in Appway 6 ?
Thanks,
Matt

The use of memory in browsers is hard to predict. Certainly we have some memory leaks and we constantly fix them as soon as we find them. We have fixed many of them between 5.3 and 6. But it remains uncertain whether we really have found all major ones.
For IE8 it is very hard to find the leaks, because the browser itself has its own leaks, since it is fairly old. Also IE8 does not provide very good developer tools to find potential memory leaks. Furthermore on modern computer systems it is hard to tell if the application really uses as much memory as the OS tells you, or if unused memory has actually not been released yet. So in reality even if the OS says, "Your browser uses 1Gb of memory", it could be the case that it just has not released 90% of it yet because you are not needing it elsewhere.
A browser like IE8 might also grow in memory because you opened other websites/webapps during the lifetime of the application. All of these websites use memory too.
So for the short answer. Yes memory is a problem in IE8 and we are constantly trying to fix leaks. But this is something that we set the focus on in modern browsers, that also give as a real chance to find and fix the bugs.
