Today marks the official product release of Appway 6.2.
Appway 6.2 sees a significant increase in performance and robustness. This release introduces a new concept for managing business data, improving performance for solutions with large value stores. More powerful data tables, improved notifications and new high-level components are just a couple of the other areas we've been working on.
Comprehensive Release Notes for Appway 6.2 cover the changes and new features found in the release. Here's a summary of the five major topics we'd like to highlight.
System Performance
System monitoring has been enhanced to better support the administration of critical business applications. A streamlined overview of system health provides you with system-critical information at a glance. New alerts inform you of potential issues before they escalate. We've worked on performance improvements for write operations; sped up and increased the stability of start-up and shut-down procedures, and improved exception handling for the persistency layer. That's not all: We've also focused on improving process locking (to better support processes running concurrently), and introduced an eviction strategy to free memory for installations that rely on many large data handles, such as PDF files.
Entity Management
Appway 6.2 introduces "Entity Management" as an alternative to existing data management concepts you may be using in your solution. The Entity Management concept allows business data to be managed outside of Value Stores, reducing CPU and network usage. It also lets you leverage NoSQL storage technology within your solution.
Data Table
We have implemented many new features requested by our customers. Data tables are now mobile-responsive, with enhanced filtering and sorting capabilities. More powerful than previous iterations, performance has been boosted for increased efficiency.
Workspace Notifications
Workspace notifications were introduced in Appway 6. This latest release builds on feedback to further improve user experience. We've added support for multiple notification inboxes so that different types of notifications (for example, system, collaboration, and process notifications) can be separated.
Workspace Design
If you are planning a new installation and already use IE 8 or above (or an up-to-date version of other common browsers), Appway 6.2 gives you access to new high-level components for template and form design. End users also benefit from a redesigned Workspace. Upgrading will not affect existing solutions, as this functionality is disabled by default. Migration to the new Workspace will be supported with future versions of Appway.
